TRACT SELECTION
Target Geography Name

The NSP mapping tool was originally created to help NSP2 applicants submit their proposed target area to HUD. It has been re-purposed, and is now available for NSP1 grantees. If you applied for NSP2, you can log in using your existing account, and create a new target area called “NSP1 Area of Greatest Need”. You will submit this the same way you submitted your NSP2 target area.

If you are new to the NSP mapping tool, follow the instructions below:
  • First, create an account. Please be sure to clearly type the full name of your jurisdiction in the “Organization” field.
  • Second, click on the map to select the census tracts that correspond to your area of greatest need.
  • When you’ve selected all your census tracts, name it “NSP1 Area of Greatest Need” and click Save. Then click “View Target Geographies” and submit your NSP1 Area of Greatest Need.

When you click on a census tract, the tool displays the NSP2 foreclosure and vacancy risk score for that census tract. Highest risk census tracts are coded red. These scores do not affect the eligibility of a census tract for NSP1 activity, and are purely for your information. For more information on how these risk scores were developed, see the methodology.
