Youth, the Arts, and Community OutreachAbstractThe University of Florida Community Outreach Partnership Center (COPC) has used youth programs and the arts as outreach tools to organize neighborhood associations and build ties with local Community Development Corporations. This article discusses the evolution of the strategy of using the arts in outreach and organizing. The strategy attempts to achieve university-community partnership, wider participation by the university, additional support for the program, viable neighborhood associations, and progress toward institutionalization of the COPC. Examples of this strategy include the involvement of youth in a dance troupe that performs throughout the community and using visiting artists at the university to conduct classes and programs in the neighborhoods.Youth, the Arts, and Community Outreach (*.pdf)
