BURLINGTON, Iowa (AP) — A project to improve the facades of 17 buildings in downtown Burlington is moving ahead. The Hawk Eye reports officials and property owners have been working on the project for two years. They have obtained a $500,000 Community Development Block Grant, which will be matched with about $234,000 from the property owners. The money will go toward the exterior restorations of 17 buildings in the 300, 400 and 500 blocks of Jefferson Street. The deadline for general contractors to bid on the project is Aug. 12.
