HUD Secretary Alphonso Jackson
Announces New Study on Reducing Regulatory Barriers
HUD has just released a new report on regulatory barriers titled "Why
Not In Our Community?" Removing Barriers to Affordable Housing.
This document is an update of the landmark 1991 publication "Not
in My Backyard" Report of the Advisory Commission on Regulatory
Barriers to Affordable Housing (also known informally as the Kemp Commission
report). The new publication looks at current regulatory reform issues
and their impact on affordable housing. You can order hard copies of this
publication from the HUD USER Clearinghouse for $5 each by calling 1-800-245-2691;
if you'd prefer, you can also download a free PDF
file version of "Why Not In Our Community?" to
see for yourself just how far we as a nation have -- and haven't -- come
in removing the barriers to affordable housing.
