| Description |
This guide, created by the Washington (DC) Area Housing Partnership, provides users with a variety of tools to promote the development of affordable housing. The Partnership recognizes the need for more housing that is affordable to individuals who work in the public and service sectors.
The toolkit contains eight sections. Section I contains programs that promote affordable housing development; Section II contains ways to preserve existing affordable housing; Section III describes affordable housing design concepts; Section IV presents funding options; Sections V through VII discuss homeowner and rental assistance programs; and Section VIII contains housing education and advocacy tools. Regulatory reform topics discussed in the toolkit include: inclusionary zoning, minimum lot sizes and setbacks, affordable housing districts, infill housing development, expedited permitting, affordable dwelling unit ordinance, density bonuses, and impact fee waivers and proportional impact fees.
The tool kit includes a list of affordable housing programs in the Washington area by individual jurisdiction.
