| Description |
The City of Fort Lauderdale, Florida has an affordable housing program that provides fee reductions to developments based on the percentage of units that are available to lower-income persons. Developments that make 20 percent of their units available for very-low-income renters receive a 100 percent reduction in development fees. Developments that make 20 percent of their units available for low-income households receive a 75 percent reduction in development fees. The city's intention with these fee reductions is to encourage mixed income development and to promote their affordable housing program.
The city encourages single-family homeownership development by giving to qualified developments up to a five thousand dollar offset for each unit. Multifamily development may qualify for up to five thousand dollars for the entire development. [Sec. 9-343.]
Home occupations, defined as occupations that are conducted in a residence and are subordinate to the general use of the home as a residence, are allowed under certain conditions in Fort Lauderdale, FL. The occupation may involve only residents of the house, must not produce signs, materials, or equipment that is visible from the exterior of the home, must not involve the sale or offering for sale of products and services from the home, does not occupy more than ¼ of the area of one floor of the home, nor does it occupy any accessory or secondary building; does not produce traffic in excess of that of the residents of the home, and lastly, does not produce general disturbances, such as noise, vibration, or fumes that are detectable from the exterior of the home.
