Description: Home Expo 1997 Steko Avenue is a 21-unit project with an average lot size of 6,000 square feet. Purchasers were required to be first-time homebuyers with income below 120 percent of the median.
Two for-profit developers and two not-for-profit developers participated in the Home Expo 1997 Steko Avenue project and constructed eight different model homestyles. Potential homebuyers walked through the model homes and participated in a lottery to select a building lot and developer. Homebuyers were required to attend three homeownership classes sponsored by the City, and were obligated to submit a minimum downpayment of $1,500.
Each Home Expo model exemplifies the "new urbanism," featuring expansive windows, a welcoming front porch or stoop, and architectural details which complement traditional City home designs.
